Rain Dance

“No rain today either”, remarked Jack, his brow furrowed as he looked out the window at the blazing sun and the clear blue sky.
“It has to rain soon. Else…”, said Alicia, anxiously.
“Yes, just has to…”, thought Jack, “Everything depends on it”. He thought of their withering crops and sick animals. The heat wave had been too much for them to bear.
He walked over to the barn to check on the animals. He refilled their water containers again, just as he had done so an hour ago. The heat was making them excessively thirsty. He splashed water all over the barn to keep it cool. Just then he noticed that the some of the animals had escaped their enclosures. The heat must have made them restless, he thought anxiously, as he locked up the rest in their respective enclosures and stepped out to look for the missing ones.
Just then he saw White Gold and Blue Star – their two peacocks out in the field; preening and dancing, as dark clouds rolled in.

Ahh, the peacocks are doing a rain dance and it’s working! Great story! I thought it was well told. Thank you for participating in the Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers challenge. 🙂
Thank you for coming up with such a great platform for us. I am so relieved about the positive response. I’m not used to writing such short pieces. Went out of my comfort zone for this one. Was nervous and apprehensive when posting it, so your feedback is very reassuring. Thank you so much. 🙂
You’re welcome and believe me, it is my pleasure! You will get hooked on flash fiction. It is fun and addicting! Of course, all of us came out of our comfort zones to participate and now we are hooked! LOL!
I love it! Well written with a great ending. Dancing in the rain is a wonderful action and metaphor. I also have to comment that every time I go to your blog, I smile (and chuckle a little) when I see your tagline.
Thank you. I am glad it makes you smile. We all need those in our hectic lives, don’t we. Your support keeps me going.
I love dancing in the rain. Well written. I wonder if I could produce one hundred words to suit a photograph so aptly.
At first, I didn’t think so either, but then decided to go in for it. Give it a try atleast! 🙂
Very nice post 🙂

Another bird! MOL…You told it well. =^,,^=
There must be a bit of folklore about peacocks and rain. Good job.
Yes. Just before it rains, the peacocks spread their plume to its full width and dance. This is to attract the female peahens. It’s a beautiful but rare sight to see a peacock dance in real life. 🙂 Thank you for reading and for your liking it 🙂
It must be quite a sight to see peacocks dancing in the rain.
It is… but then, it is a rare sight!
I loved reading it. 🙂
