So, Camp NaNoWriMo started yesterday and as promised to myself I jumped headlong into it.
I’ve started working on a novel; and even though the plot seemed sketchy, I still took the plunge. I did worry about not having enough length and scenes in the storyline to qualify it as a novel.
I am finally working on my novel. And in the process getting to know new things about myself too. YAY!! It’s just Day 2 today and I’ve got down 1500 words already. What could be better than that! Double YAY!!
During my evening walk yesterday, a new idea occurred to me and gave me a breakthrough for making a dull scene more interesting and moving the story forward. That’s when I realized that I’m a ‘pantser’.
Earlier, I had kept pushing the ‘writing a novel’ phase for another time, thinking I wasn’t ready or that the plot wasn’t good enough. But now, after this incident, I am pretty sure I shall manage.
Till recently I would also continuously question myself about my writing skills. An oft repeated question would be – Am I a Writer?
But now, with this discovery, not only is that question answered but I also know what kind! Thrilled about this gift from Camp NaNoWriMo.
This being my very first attempt, I’ve kept a modest target – 10,000 words but the novel may turn out to be longer than that. Of course, the post-writing phase of editing and re-writing is far more important. As of now, I am just focussed on the writing bit. I’ve started the journey. I shall now strive to reach the finishing line.
A trial version of Scrivener is available for Camp NaNoWriMo participants and I’m loving it so far. It has indeed made writing easier.
I’m super-excited about the journey ahead and the learnings it promises to bring with it.

Jump in , I say 🙂 A ‘pantser’ is a one who writes the story as it goes along, as opposed to a ‘plotter’ who has the story mapped out from the very beginning. Pantser may have some parts or even a basic storyline in place , but for most parts the story is written as it develops. Plotter have all details worked out even before they start writing.
I’m kinda both. I think. We’ll see. And I am writing it, slowly, but it takes effort. Thanks for the encouragement.
